Matrix Cooling held our first tree planting session on the 27th of March, Saturday in the heart of Kuala Lumpur – the Malaysian Nature Society’s Urban Community Forest.
Given Covid-19 restraints, we had to hold a soft launch instead, with a maximum allowed attendance of 30 people, with strict compliance to SOP. Despite this, the morning processed smoothly – with welcoming speeches from the President of MNS, Prof Dr. Ahmad Ismail, and our very own Matrix Cooling Managing Director, Mr. Charles Penafort. Following that, the volunteering team were briefed, and split into batches to proceed with the planting.
Teams were given a mixture of saplings that included forest trees (e.g. merbau, pulai, gaharu), fruit trees (e.g. durian, rambutan), palms and shrubs (e.g. ginger, bamboo).
The aim was to plant 125 saplings, the first quarter of the 500 to be planted this year. At the end of the morning, the team had planted 130 saplings, 1 hour ahead of schedule!
We would like to extend a big thanks to everyone at our Matrix Cooling offices that volunteered their Saturday mornings, especially those that brought along their adorable family members! And finally, a big welcome to our new partners at MNS. No one achieves anything alone, and so here’s to more sustainable long term change through partnerships.
